Our story
Helping the people who help others, one practice at a time.
The first practice I ever helped belonged to my partner, a licensed marriage and family therapist. He was great with his clients. The business side was another story. His session notes lived in a notes app on his phone. He didn’t take insurance. And billing was, frankly, a joke: nobody was tracking what had been billed or what had been paid, and he was losing money without even realizing it.
So I fixed it. I set up a real EHR, got him credentialed with the insurance companies in our area, and put his billing on solid ground. Then something happened that neither of us expected. His phone started ringing. People were finding him online and through the insurance companies he was now credentialed with, and his practice took off.
Therapists are trained to care for people, not to run a business.
Word traveled. The clinician who shared his office asked for help next. Then came the associates he supervised, ready to open practices of their own. I was surprised every time the phone rang. My favorite was a group of newly licensed therapists who wanted to build a group practice together from the ground up. Over and over, I watched talented clinicians get overwhelmed. Not by their clients, but by paperwork, systems and payer rules.
When I moved out of state, I stopped taking new clients. Leaving wasn’t the hard part. The hard part was the calls that kept coming: therapists who needed help, and me telling them I had moved and couldn’t take them on.
I’ll admit it: I’m a bit of a nerd about this. A clean EHR setup, a credentialing file with nothing missing, a billing report that finally adds up. That stuff makes my day.
Here’s why it matters to me. Mental health care matters, and the people who provide it deserve to put everything they have into their patients, not into chasing claims, decoding paperwork or wondering whether their practice is losing money. Helping the people who help others is the most rewarding work I know.
